STEM Teacher Professional Development

Educative STEM Curriculum Design

Create innovative, NGSS-aligned, research-based STEM teaching tools that support both teacher and student learning. The Teacher Learning Consultancy can develop field-tested teaching resources for clients that address teacher and student needs under the current STEM learning standards.

  • Biology units that integrate engineering and mathematics to support conceptual learning in high school biology for the Learning Research and Development Center at the University of Pittsburgh

  • Chemistry unit that integrates engineering disciplinary core ideas and modeling practices to support conceptual learning in high school chemistry for New Visions for Public Schools

Continuous Improvement and Formative Research 

Use research tools for continuous improvement of STEM teacher learning programs to enable "mid-stream course corrections" during implementation. The Teacher Learning Consultancy can survey relevant literature for clients, provide support for continuous improvement efforts, and develop and implement formative research plans for clients.

Examples: 

  • Literature reviews: a) on translanguaging approaches and content learning for a program team at New York City Department of Education; b) on factors that impact school level changes as schools implement at-scale STEM educational reform initiatives

  • Interim internal memos on the implementation of math and literacy programs using qualitative data gathered from the field for program teams at the New York City Department of Education

  • Workshop facilitation and continuous improvement coaching for practitioners in NYC public schools to build capacity for ongoing, incremental improvements
